Making SRE Work for Real World Reliability, People and Teams

Hosted by: Colin Houlihan, VP Consulting, NearForm
Guest Speaker: Niall Murphy, Author

Over the years, SRE has moved away from solely presenting a framework for how software engineers can best manage their time to accomplish repetitive tasks, and more towards a discipline outlining practices to be used within software engineering to streamline availability, latency, performance, monitoring, and emergency response, among others.

In this webinar, we will be discussing the following topics with Niall, a leader in the SRE space:

  • What really is SRE?
  • How does SRE differ from one organisation to another?
  • What are the key principles SREs need to focus on to ensure that systems are kept running?
  • How to best structure the organisational position of SRE in your enterprise
  • Communication best practices for seamless SRE workflows

There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

Niall Murphy is an award-winning author, speaker, technologist and executive leader. He is the author of the Site Reliability Engineering book, as well as its successor volume The Site Reliability Workbook. He has devoted over twenty years of mission-critical engineering roles at Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, and has unique knowledge and experience when it comes to SRE, production engineering generally, and large-scale online cloud systems.

While Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is by no means a foreign concept to the world of software development, the industry doesn’t talk enough about how to make SRE adapt to different organisations, systems and projects.
